The SRNT Fellows Review Committee is seeking nominations for the 2026 Class of SRNT Fellows
The status of Fellow is a distinction conferred by the Society on members in
recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of nicotine and
tobacco research, and of service to SRNT.
Consistent with SRNT values, the Fellows Program embraces inclusion and
diversity.
Eligibility for Fellows Consideration
Members for the prior 5 consecutive years who are at least 10 years past receipt
of their terminal degree are eligible for Fellows Status. Candidates are welcome
to self-nominate. Please note, interruption of membership as a result of Parental
Leave, Family Medical Leave or similar will be considered; please mention this in
the nomination letter, if applicable.
Application
Nominees must complete a standard application, which includes an area for
indicating service to SRNT. Applications must include the nominee’s full CV
and two letters of recommendation, with at least one letter from a current SRNT
Member. At least one letter must highlight the candidate’s contributions in each
of the three evaluative areas using the headings below. Take this opportunity to
make the case for the candidate becoming an SRNT Fellow. Please note: The
candidate’s CV is not a substitute for either letter of recommendation.
Area of Consideration
#1: RESEARCH
Nominations must include a statement about the candidate’s substantive
impact on the field of nicotine/tobacco research. Examples of
contributions include, but are not limited to:
- Established a distinguished track record of publications in the field of
nicotine and tobacco research - Been invited to give keynote or plenary presentations at national and
international conferences, and other venues - Obtained external support for research, particularly through peer review
- Received academic prizes and awards specifically for research activities
- Made seminal contributions that have influenced the direction of the field
- Sustained scholarly activity
Area of Consideration
#2: SERVICE TO THE FIELD
Nominations must include a statement about the candidate’s impact on the field
through distinguished service such as in leadership roles, training/mentoring,
and advancing policy or practice. Examples of contributions include, but are not
limited to:
- Participated on national study sections or research advisory boards
- Shown dedication to the advancement of research through the
development of manuals, workshops, and presentations - Taught trainees now experiencing success in the field of nicotine and
tobacco research or practice - Fostered innovative training tools, curricula, or courses
- Developed and/or led a training program in nicotine and tobacco
research or closely related field - Written scholarly non-research articles on training, including book
chapters - Developed tobacco treatment, tobacco policy, or similar curricula
Area of Consideration
#3: SERVICE TO and/or DISTINGUISHED INVOLVEMENT IN SRNT
Nominations must describe noteworthy contributions to SRNT. Examples of
contributions include, but are not limited to:
- Served in elected office or appointed leadership position (Committee,
Network, Taskforce, Workgroup) - Served on a committee or task force
Service as an editor or reviewer for journal - Reviewed program abstracts
- Participated in an SRNT Network project or workgroup
- Supported SRNT-U and/or SRNT Virtual Events through development
or presentation of content - Regularly attend/present at the SRNT Annual Meeting
Review Process
The Fellows Review Committee is comprised of the three immediate Past
Presidents of SRNT: Megan Piper, Chair, Chris Bullen, and Ben Toll.
Applications and supporting are due by Friday, September 19. The new Class of
Fellows will be recognized during the 2026 SRNT Annual Meeting in Baltimore.
