2026 Officer Nominations
The 2026 SRNT Leadership & Inclusion (formerly Nominations) Committee is inviting nominations from the membership for the offices of:
- President-Elect
- Treasurer
- Member Delegate representing Africa/Asia/Oceania/Latin America/Caribbean/Middle East (AAOLA)
- Student Representative
Regarding eligibility to hold elected office, here is text from the SRNT Bylaws, which were approved by the membership in 2023:
“SRNT is foremost a research society; therefore, eligibility to hold elected office, other than the Student Representative position, is reserved for those members with experience in the design, conduct, analysis, and dissemination of research. Evidence of such experiences may include but is not limited to authorship on peer-reviewed publication(s); executive-level position experience in research organizations; participation as key personnel on a federal or state-funded (or international equivalent) or foundation-funded peer-reviewed project(s); or other documented evidence related to nicotine and tobacco research, such as conducting studies where information, data, or evidence is gathered, analyzed, presented, and disseminated. If an experience/education/related question arises, the Leadership & Inclusion Committee will determine eligibility.”
Furthermore, because SRNT is a diverse organization, please consider colleagues with a broad range of scientific interests (molecular, biobehavioral, clinical, epidemiological, policy, etc.) as well as from diverse ethnic/cultural/geographical backgrounds when making nominations.
Successful candidates are expected to be actively involved in SRNT; help advance SRNT’s strategic initiatives; attend annual meetings during their tenure; participate in monthly teleconference calls; and be available by email for issues that arise between Board meetings.
The term of office for President-Elect is one year, followed by one year as President and one year as Immediate Past President (three years total). The term of office for Secretary and for Member Delegate is three years. The term for Student Representative is one year. The candidates elected will begin their terms immediately after the 2026 SRNT Annual Meeting in Baltimore.
All members of SRNT may submit nominations for those individuals who meet the criteria set forth in the Bylaws (above). Members may self-nominate.
Nominations must be received by Friday, September 19, and include the following:
- Candidate’s contact information
- Confirmation of the candidate’s willingness to serve if elected
- One letter of recommendation from a current SRNT member
Staff will follow up with individuals nominated to request additional materials, including a CV, brief bio sketch, and Conflict of Interest form.
If you have any questions, please email SRNT Executive Director, Bruce Wheeler, at bwheeler@srnt.org.
